The Department of Philosophy, in cooperation with the Department of History and Philosophy of Science and the Center for Philosophy of Science, offers advanced degree programs leading to the MA and PhD degrees. The department is especially strong in the areas of epistemology, ethics, Greek philosophy, history of philosophy, mathematical and philosophical logic, metaphysics, political and social philosophy, history and philosophy of science, philosophy of language, philosophy of mathematics, philosophy of mind and psychology, and semantics. An MA in analytic philosophy is open to Duquesne University graduate students. In addition to the general doctoral program, a PhD program with a concentration in ancient philosophy and science is also offered in cooperation with the Departments of Classics and of History and Philosophy of Science.
