A graduate certificate in Global Studies signifies a student's global competence, the ability to communicate effectively across cultural and linguistic boundaries and to focus on issues that transcend cultures and continents. It is a joint offering of the University Center for International Studies (UCIS) and the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs (GSPIA). The Global Studies certificate enables students from any department or school within the University to internationalize their academic credentials. Students complete six interdisciplinary courses in Global Studies, including four courses in a global concentration and two courses that reflect that interest in a regional area. Students must also pass out of the third year of a foreign language, participate in the Global Studies Colloquium, and write a research paper on a global topic. The Global Studies lecture series, conferences, colloquia, and other sponsored events provide intellectual enrichment and opportunities for professional development.
