This graduate program provides students with the approved Commission on Accreditation of Dietetics Education (CADE) coursework, a Master of Science degree and the accredited supervised practice component for preparation for a career in dietetics as a Registered Dietitian (RD). The goals of the CP program include preparation of registry-eligible master’s degree graduates who have attained the competence required of all dietitians upon entry into practice and the additional entry-level competence in the emphasis area of Nutrition Therapy (NT). The CP will offer supervised practice experiences in a variety of major health care and community settings including the renowned University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Health System (UPMC). Upon successful completion of the CP program, graduates are eligible to sit for the National Registration Examination for Dietitians. Students are encouraged to apply to the program as sophomores, completing their BS and MS with the program. Students who have completed a dietetics/nutrition BS degree may meet the requirements for direct admission into the CP and are able to complete the program in two years. Students with a bachelor's degree in a non-nutrition related area may apply to the CP and complete the program in three years.
