This program aims to teach trainees the skills necessary to design and conduct high quality clinical research involving human subjects. Individuals must demonstrate a high level of interest and potential for pursuing innovative clinical research and demonstrate long-term goals of entering a clinical research career. The program consists of a tightly integrated core curriculum. If the Certificate program, the core curriculum is followed by additional elective courses; if in the MS program the core curriculum is followed by a nine-month research design and development course that builds upon the skills introduced in the core curriculum. Trainees enrolled in the master of science program must select a track from one of the following areas: (1) clinical trials research; (2) comparative effectiveness research; (3) health services research; or (4) translational research. Each track provides additional coursework and training. Trainees enrolled in the master of science program can also select a content specialization from one of the following areas: (1) aging and chronic disease; (2) health disparities and underserved community research; or (3) palliative care. Master of Science trainees also complete a thesis or substantive research project that is defended before a review committee.
