The European Studies Center offers an interdisciplinary certificate in West European Studies that complements graduate studies pursued in various departments of the Arts and Sciences or one of the professional schools. It is designed for students who wish to intensify their study of Western Europe for use in their careers or because they realize the importance of an understanding of West European history, language, and culture as part of their education. The certificate requires proficiency in a West European language, completion of 18 credits of area courses, a West European-focused research paper, and graduation with a graduate or professional school degree. The Center's lecture series, research groups, conferences, and graduate student symposia work in tandem with the activities of the European Union Center of Excellence to provide opportunities for intellectual enrichment and professional development. Fellowships and other forms of funding are available for outstanding students.
