This program offers an interdisciplinary certificate requiring six approved courses in the history, economics, and politics of the former Soviet successor states, study of Russian or another language of the former Soviet Union equivalent to three years at the college level, and the completion of a substantial research paper using original language sources. The certificate is taken in conjunction with the student's graduate degree in one of the disciplines of the School of Arts and Sciences or one of the professional graduate schools. Fellowships and research fellowships for study abroad are available to graduate students through the Center for Russian and East European Studies. A joint certificate in East European Studies, Russian Studies, or Soviet Studies and International and Comparative Law is offered to students in the School of Law who complete 19 credits in international and comparative law courses, along with the East European Studies, Russian Studies, or Soviet Studies certificate program requirements.
